'Let me live, love and say it well in good sentences'

Badly Drawn Boy, RNCM, 21.10.10 – Review

After what seemed like an age of waiting, I finally got to see one of the most illusive and talented singer-songwriters of our generation perform live last week; that person was Badly Drawn Boy.

I managed to bag myself a reviewing slot at his show at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester. This also happens to be one of my favourite performance spaces in the city. The small-medium sized lecture theatre was the perfect venue for such an intimate show as this, as Badly Drawn Boy took the audience on a sublime and emotional journey through his past, present and looking to his ever promising future, with the release of his new album ‘It’s What I’ve Been Thinking Pt.1 – Photographing Snowflakes.’

He played a 20-strong setlist, complete with old favourites, classics, early EP gems and much more; needless to say, it was a brilliant show.

If  you’re not familiar with the artist, I would highly recommend that you take a listen to his amazing debut album ‘The Hour Of Bewilderbeast’ and the soundtrack to motion picture ‘About A Boy’ (which he composed and performed in its entirety) for starters.

Badly Drawn Boy truly is a great northern institution.
